What you can ask ListShack in your AI assistant
ListShack has an MCP server. Connect it to an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT, then ask in plain language about ListShack's data, your account and your lists. This guide lists the questions it can answer.
Getting started
- Add the ListShack MCP server to your assistant as a connector. The address and the setup steps for each assistant are on the Agents page.
- When the assistant asks, sign in to ListShack (or create an account) and approve access. The approval screen shows what the assistant will be allowed to do.
- Ask a question. A good first one: "What can I do with ListShack?"
You can see and revoke connected assistants at any time in your ListShack account settings.
What's free and what costs something
| Kind of question | Cost |
|---|---|
| About your account, the databases, and their fields | Free, not counted |
| Data calls: counts, saved searches, looking up allowed field values and suppression-list questions on plans without search suppressions | One data call each from your free monthly allowance (500 a month, resetting on the 1st, UTC). Paid plans are unlimited. |
| Previewing sample records | Free on a paid plan; values are masked |
| Buying a list | ListShack credits: records × the database's credit multiplier, × 2 with premium fields. You always approve the exact amount first. |
A question that fails, is refused, or times out doesn't use a data call. The assistant can never spend credits on its own. Before anything is bought, it shows you the record count, fields, list name and exact credit cost, and waits for your approval, either right in the chat or on a ListShack link.
1. Your account
| You can ask | What you get back |
|---|---|
| "What plan am I on?" | Your plan (or Free) and your role on the account |
| "How many free lookups do I have left this month?" | Calls used, calls remaining and when the allowance resets |
| "How many credits do I have?" | Monthly credits and add-on credits (paid plans) |
| "What's the most records I can buy in one list?" | Your plan's per-download limit |
| "Can you buy lists for me?" | Whether this connection is allowed to purchase |
| "Does my plan leave out records I've already bought?" | Whether search suppression is on your plan |
| "Is my account verified?" | Whether your membership is verified |
| "How do I upgrade?" | A link to ListShack pricing for you to open. The assistant can't upgrade or pay for you. |
2. What data is available
| Database | What it is | Credits per record | Use cases |
|---|---|---|---|
| US Consumers | ListShack's latest consumer telemarketing and direct mail database. | 1 | Telemarketing, SMS, Email, All emails, Direct mail |
| US Businesses | ListShack's business telemarketing and direct mail database. Lists from this database do not use ListShack credits. | 0 (free) | Direct mail |
| Aged US Vehicle Owners | Vehicle Owners and Sales by VIN | 10 | Direct mail |
| US Cell Phones 2 | ListShack's US Cell Phones database. This dataset does not undergo major or minor updates. | 1 | Telemarketing, SMS, Direct mail |
| You can ask | What you get back |
|---|---|
| "What databases do you have?" | The databases above, with descriptions |
| "Tell me about the US Consumers database." | Its fields, use cases, rules and credit cost |
| "What can I filter on in the vehicle owner data?" | The searchable fields and how each can be compared |
| "What columns come with a business list?" | The fields you can include when you buy |
| "How current is the consumer data?" | The dataset's release date |
| "Which databases can I use for texting?" | The databases with an SMS use case |
| "How many credits does a record cost?" | The database's credit multiplier |
Searchable fields
| Database | You can filter by |
|---|---|
| US Consumers | state, city, county, age, gender, homeowner, birth month, birth year |
| US Businesses | state, city, county |
| Aged US Vehicle Owners | state, city, make, model year |
| US Cell Phones 2 | state, city |
You can combine filters with AND, OR and NOT. Number fields such as age accept ranges ("between 55 and 70"). Text fields accept exact values, lists of up to 20 values ("Ohio, Indiana or Michigan"), and simple patterns ("cities starting with San").
Fields you can buy
| Database | Fields you can buy |
|---|---|
| US Consumers | First name, Last name, Street address, Apartment number, City, State, Zip code, Zip 4, County, Area code, Phone, Age, Birth month, Est income, Email (premium), Opt-in (premium) |
| US Businesses | Business name, Phone, Owner, Address, City, State, Zip, County, Sales volume, SIC code, Number of employees, Web address (where available) |
| Aged US Vehicle Owners | Model Year, Make, Model, First name, Last name, Address, City, State, Zip code, Zip 4, Phone, Email (if available), VIN |
| US Cell Phones 2 | First name, Last name, Street address, City, State, Zip code, Phone |
Rules applied automatically
Every count, search and purchase uses a use case. The assistant picks it from what you say ("for a mailing", "to call", "to text") or asks you. You can't turn these rules off:
- Telemarketing: Requires a non-DNC phone record and selects a primary phone occurrence. (US Consumers and US Cell Phones 2)
- SMS: Requires a non-DNC cell phone record, a cell-contact flag, and a primary phone occurrence. (US Consumers and US Cell Phones 2)
- Email: Requires an email address with a recorded opt-in date. Use this by default for email. (US Consumers)
- All emails: Requires an email address, with or without a recorded opt-in date. Use only when the person asks for emails without opt-in. (US Consumers)
- Direct mail: US Consumers and Aged US Vehicle Owners: Requires a mailing address and selects a primary address occurrence. US Businesses and US Cell Phones 2: Requires a mailing address.
Records you've already bought are left out by default if your plan includes search suppression. Say "include records I've already bought" to count them.
3. Checking which values you can use
Some fields have a fixed set of values. The assistant can look them up so your filter uses the right spelling. Each lookup uses one data call.
| Database | Fields you can look up |
|---|---|
| US Consumers | state, gender, homeowner |
| US Businesses | state |
| Aged US Vehicle Owners | state, make |
| US Cell Phones 2 | state |
- "What vehicle makes start with 'Ch'?"
- "How is homeowner status recorded?"
- "Which states start with 'N'?"
Values come back in lowercase, and filters ignore case, so "CA" and "ca" are the same. Rare values are hidden for privacy, and each lookup returns at most 20 values.
4. Counting records
Ask how many records match before you buy. Each count uses one data call.
- "How many homeowners aged 55 to 70 are in Texas for a direct mail campaign?"
- "How many people in Ohio turn 65 in March 2027?"
- "How many women in Maricopa County, Arizona, can I call?"
- "Count homeowners in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan, but not in Columbus."
- "How many businesses can I mail to in Austin, Texas?"
- "How many owners of 2016, 2017 or 2018 Fords live in Georgia?"
- "How many cell numbers can I text in Phoenix, Arizona?"
- "How many would that be if I include records I've already bought?"
Counts are rounded to the nearest 10. A count under 25 isn't shown at all, to protect privacy; you'll be told when that happens. To count within a distance of an address or place, see Addresses, places and radius searches. To leave out people on your own suppression lists, see Suppression lists.
5. Saving a search to buy from
To buy a list or see a sample, the assistant first saves the search. The saved search gives the count and holds the exact criteria and rules, so what you buy matches what was counted. It uses one data call and expires after 24 hours.
- "Save that search so I can buy it."
- "Set up a search for homeowners aged 55 to 70 in Texas for direct mail."
6. Previewing sample records (paid plans)
- "Show me a few sample records from that search."
- "What do these records look like?"
You'll see at most 3 records, with personal details masked:
- First name, Last name, Owner and Business name: reduced to initials;
- Street address, Apartment number, Zip code, Email (if available), VIN and Web address (where available): hidden;
- Phone: shown as the last two digits;
- Age: shown as a decade band (such as 50–59);
- Sales volume and Number of employees: shown as a range;
- City, State, Model Year, Make, Model and SIC code: shown as they are.
A preview spends no credits.
7. Buying a list (paid plans)
- "Buy 1,000 of those records with name, address and phone, and call the list 'Texas homeowners – May'."
- "How much would 5,000 records with email cost?"
Before buying, the assistant gets the exact price, then asks you to confirm the record count, fields, list name and credits. Nothing is spent until you approve. If fewer records are available than you asked for, you'll be told the real number first.
- Price: records × the credit multiplier: 1 credit per record on US Consumers, 10 credits per record on Aged US Vehicle Owners and 1 credit per record on US Cell Phones 2. US Businesses lists are free.
- Premium fields (email and opt-in on US Consumers) multiply the whole list's price by 2; the quote shows the exact credits before you approve.
- Limits: up to 100,000 records per list, and never more than your plan's per-download limit. New, unverified accounts can create one list of up to 500 records per 24 hours during their first 3 days.
- Retries: each purchase carries a one-time request ID, so if the connection drops and the assistant retries, you're not charged twice.
- Where it goes: the list is saved to your ListShack account like any other list.
8. Checking on a purchase
- "Is my list ready?"
- "Where do I download it?"
You get the list's status, record count and credits used, and once it's ready, a link to open it in ListShack.
What the assistant can't do
- Look up a specific person or business, or check one phone number or address; counts and previews never reveal who is in a list.
- Filter by fields not listed under Searchable fields. Use the ListShack website for those.
- Search older database versions or other ListShack products.
- Change your plan, enter payment details, or approve a purchase on your behalf.
