Filling in your own records (appends)

Give the assistant your own contacts (a spreadsheet, a CRM export, a pasted list). It matches them to ListShack records and fills in what you're missing, such as phone numbers, emails, names or addresses.

How an append works

  1. You share your rows and say what to add: "Here are 300 customers with names and addresses. Find their phone numbers."
  2. The assistant gets a quote: how many rows matched, how many records will be returned, and the exact credit cost. Nothing is spent and no ListShack data is shown.
  3. You approve the exact cost, in the chat or on a ListShack link.
  4. The assistant gets the results and can show them, merge them into your table, or summarize them.

The assistant can never approve the cost for you. A quote that isn't approved expires after 15 minutes and costs nothing.

What it costs

Appends are priced like buying a list:

  • Each matched record costs the database's credit multiplier: 1 credit per record on US Consumers, 10 credits per record on Aged US Vehicle Owners and 1 credit per record on US Cell Phones 2. US Businesses appends are free.
  • Premium fields (email and opt-in on US Consumers) multiply the price of that append by 2, as in a purchase.
  • Rows with no match cost nothing, and neither do records that have none of the fields you asked for.
  • You need a plan with credits, even for free appends. Your plan's per-download limit applies, and new, unverified accounts share one allowance between purchases and appends: one list or append of up to 500 records per 24 hours during their first 3 days.
  • If the connection drops and the assistant retries, you're never charged twice.
  • Matching an address without a ZIP code uses ListShack's geocoder at no extra charge.

1. Ways to match your rows

Match by What you need in each row What you get back
Name and address First name, last name, street, and a ZIP code (or city and state) The matching person
Phone A phone number The person with that number
Address Street and ZIP code Everyone at that address, up to 5 people
Email An email address The person with that email
Database Name and address Phone Address Email
US Consumers ✓ ✓ ✓ ✓
US Businesses ✓ ✓ ✓ –
Aged US Vehicle Owners ✓ ✓ ✓ ✓
US Cell Phones 2 ✓ ✓ ✓ –
  • Matching ignores capitals and small differences such as "Street" vs "St".
  • Up to 1,000 rows per append; send more in batches.
  • Without a ZIP code, up to 100 rows per append can be looked up by city and state.

2. What you can add

Any field you could buy from that database:

  • US Consumers: First name, Last name, Street address, Apartment number, City, State, Zip code, Zip 4, County, Area code, Phone, Age, Birth month, Est income, Email (premium), Opt-in (premium)
  • US Businesses: Business name, Phone, Owner, Address, City, State, Zip, County, Sales volume, SIC code, Number of employees, Web address (where available)
  • Aged US Vehicle Owners: Model Year, Make, Model, First name, Last name, Address, City, State, Zip code, Zip 4, Phone, Email (if available), VIN
  • US Cell Phones 2: First name, Last name, Street address, City, State, Zip code, Phone

3. The rules still apply

Every append uses a use case, just like a search, and never returns a record that a search for that use case would leave out:

  • Telemarketing: Requires a non-DNC phone record and selects a primary phone occurrence. (US Consumers and US Cell Phones 2)
  • SMS: Requires a non-DNC cell phone record, a cell-contact flag, and a primary phone occurrence. (US Consumers and US Cell Phones 2)
  • Email: Requires an email address with a recorded opt-in date. Use this by default for email. (US Consumers)
  • All emails: Requires an email address, with or without a recorded opt-in date. Use only when the person asks for emails without opt-in. (US Consumers)
  • Direct mail: US Consumers and Aged US Vehicle Owners: Requires a mailing address and selects a primary address occurrence. US Businesses and US Cell Phones 2: Requires a mailing address.

So "add phone numbers for calling" never returns a number on the Do Not Call registry, and you're not charged for one.

4. Questions you can ask

  • "Here's my customer list with names and addresses. Find phone numbers I can call."
  • "I have these phone numbers. Who are they, and what are their mailing addresses?"
  • "Who lives at these 40 addresses? I want names for a mailing."
  • "How much would it cost to add phone numbers to this list?"
  • "Why didn't the other 60 rows match?" (counts by reason: no match, invalid phone or email, missing name or street, address not found, or a ZIP code needed)
  • "Why does this cost more per record than I expected?"
  • "Go ahead, approve it."
  • "Merge the phone numbers into my table."
  • "Give me the next page." (results come 100 rows at a time)

5. After the append

Results stay available for 30 days, and reading them again costs nothing. After that the contact data is removed, though the record of what you paid is kept. Appends aren't saved as lists in your ListShack account; ask the assistant to export or merge the results.

What it can't do

  • Update addresses for people who have moved (no change-of-address data).
  • Match by business name alone, or by partial phone numbers or emails.
  • Append from more than one database at once; run one append per database.
